Stanković Music School in Belgrade was founded in 1911, under the auspices of HRH King Peter I Karađorđević. At first, it worked within the Singing Association ”Stanković”. It was named after the Serbian composer Kornelije Stanković who was the first to introduce harmonics of the Serbian root and spiritual compositions. Many musical artists who are recognized today have passed through this school, and excellent educators and music experts taught at the school. The first school principal was Stanislav Binički.

In 1993, the school founded the first Jazz Department in Southeast Europe, setting an example for many similar institutions from the region. The teaching staff consists of notable Serbian jazz musicians – Ivan Radivojević, Jelena Jovović, Nenad Petrović, Aleksandar Grujić, Predrag Revišin, Dušan Ivanišević and Nebojša Kostić, among others. A large number of students continued their education at prestigious jazz academies, Dušan Vukmirović, Petar Krstajić, Miloš Čolović, Ognjen Gotovčević and Katarina Kočetova. Small combos made up of students performed in the Belgrade Jazz Festival side program several times. Stanković All Stars is the first ensemble composed of students and professors from the department that will perform on the BJF main program as an opening act for Aziza Mustafa Zadeh. The program is made of songs in a hardbop manner, including the original arrangements of the band members
